SU 8179 is a wall plug that must belong to a late reorganization of the space, intended to divide Room I-18 from Room I-20. The various sizes of small-to-medium tufo blocks, and the only partly regularized alternating courses of stone and tile/brick, suggest that the building material was spoliated from elsewhere and that a uniform appearance or wall surface was not a high priority. Similar plugs are evident elsewhere in the building (e.g. SU 8346 in Room I-22), which may have been constructed as part of the same renovation phase. The purpose may have been to provide greater privacy for Room I-18, or to partition the building into smaller units (smaller houses/shops/etc.). We might distinguish between these irregular plugs and those of a more regular concrete construction (E.g. SU 8177 between Rooms I-2 and I-11), which perhaps belong to a different reorganization.
This is a wall that was constructed to fill the threshold between walls 8180 and 8119 in the northwest corner of room I-18. This belongs to a later phase in the use of the building, some time after its construction and before its abandonment.
